Tearfil is described by the Finnish company as a visionary spinning mill and one of its key partners, playing a central role in promoting the industrial adoption of Spinnova fibre throughout the global textile value chain. As part of this collaboration, the Portuguese company will introduce yarns and blends incorporating Spinnova fibre to the European market, bringing this sustainable innovation closer to the sector’s leading players.
«We are excited to strengthen our partnership with Spinnova through this Letter of Intent. At Tearfil, we are committed to leading sustainable practices in the textile industry. Spinnova fibre represents a significant advance in sustainable materials, and we are proud to be at the forefront of its industrial adoption», says Maria de Belém Machado, CEO of the Portuguese spinning mill, in a statement. «This collaboration not only strengthens our product portfolio but is also aligned with our vision of promoting environmental responsibility and innovation. We look forward to introducing yarns incorporating Spinnova fibre to the European market and beyond, setting new standards for sustainability in textiles», she adds.
Pedro Brito, senior sales manager at Spinnova, stresses that «the support and expressions of interest from our brands and industrial partners in future fibre volumes are extremely valuable, as the involvement of all stakeholders throughout the value chain is essential. This is also a fundamental step towards our future ambitions of building partnerships with those with whom we can continue the important work of scaling up production of our fibre». Regarding the collaboration with Tearfil, Pedro Brito believes that it allows the companies to «continue the effort to make our fibre more accessible and contribute to the ongoing development of sustainable, high-quality materials in the industry».
This non-binding Letter of Intent is the latest milestone in a relationship between the Finnish company and the Portuguese spinning mill that has been consolidating in recent years. The partnership began with the joint development of experimental yarns based on Spinnova fibre, before evolving to the installation and start-up of a dedicated industrial production line, which made it possible to test and validate the processing of the fibre on a semi-industrial scale. In parallel, the two companies have been working on the development of yarn blends adapted to the requirements of the European market, involving customers and brands in the process of testing and qualifying the materials.
