Nosdil prepares a technological leap

Specialised in kitchen and table textiles, the Mealhada-based home textiles company grew by 14.8% in 2025 and is investing in digitalisation, artificial intelligence and increased production capacity to support a new phase of expansion planned through to 2028.

After recording growth of 14.8% in 2025, Nosdil has maintained a positive trajectory at the start of 2026, with an increase of around 4% compared with the same period last year. To support the next phase of expansion, the company has launched a digitalisation programme supported by the Financial Instrument for Innovation and Competitiveness (IFIC) and developed with CITEVE, which includes replacing the current enterprise management system and implementing seven to eight virtual assistants with AI-powered data analysis.

The aim is to increase the company’s ability to manage complex operations, with implementation of all systems expected to be completed in 2027. According to Eduardo Ferraz, co-founder and commercial director, Nosdil manages between 200 and 300 different references each week in the kitchen segment alone, involving more than one thousand codes associated with raw materials and components. «To extend this type of service to more customers, you either need an enormous human structure or an IT structure that allows us to be agile. Until we have that capacity, it is very difficult to scale», namely «to have more customers placing more small orders», he explains.

Founded 20 years ago, Nosdil operates in the made-to-measure home textiles segment, without its own collections, developing products according to each customer’s specifications. «We are like tailor-made solutions, meaning that the customer talks to us, tells us about the projects they want to develop, and we create those projects according to what the customer needs», explains Eduardo Ferraz.

Trade fairs on hold

Although the company also develops bed linen products, kitchen and table textiles account for between 60% and 70% of turnover. According to the co-founder and commercial director, «we are one of the largest producers of kitchen textiles», he says, highlighting the production of certified oven gloves and pot holders as personal protective equipment.

With 48 employees, Nosdil keeps its entire production chain in Portugal. Garment manufacturing, product development and design are carried out at its own facilities in Mealhada, while operations such as weaving and printing are handled by partners in the North of the country.

Exports account for between 55% and 60% of turnover, with Germany absorbing around 60% of that value. «Our biggest customer in the German market is our second-largest customer globally. Everything it distributes in Germany is made by us», explains Eduardo Ferraz. The remaining markets include Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Hungary and Austria. In the domestic market, a single customer accounts for around 98% of sales, under an exclusive partnership that has lasted two decades.

After suspending participation in international trade fairs such as Heimtextil in Frankfurt and Maison & Objet in Paris in 2025, Nosdil plans to return to major international events from 2028 onwards. Participation in Guimarães Home Fashion Week is, in the words of the commercial director, «just to show that we are still here». In 2029, Nosdil plans to launch its own collections and present them at Maison & Objet and other international trade fairs. «We are currently preparing the company, both in human and technological terms, so that we can take the next leap», concludes Eduardo Ferraz.
